God is opening the door

Over the past several months, we’ve been praying that God would open doors for Holy Smokin BBQ to reach more people with the Gospel.

He answered that prayer in a way far bigger than we imagined.

This fall, Holy Smokin BBQ is launching a Christ-centered tailgate before every Boise State home football game. Through this opportunity, we’re excited to come alongside organizations like Boise State Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and Athletes in Action (AIA), providing a place they can utilize for fellowship, relationship building, and ministry within the Boise State community.

But this tailgate isn’t just for FCA, AIA, or any particular organization.

Our table is open to everyone.

Students, families, alumni, fans, churches, ministries, community organizations, and anyone else who finds their way to our tailgate are welcome to pull up a chair, share a meal, and be part of the fellowship.

Our goal isn’t simply to serve food. It’s to create a place where people can gather, build relationships, and experience genuine Christian hospitality. We hope every meal becomes an opportunity for meaningful conversation, encouragement, fellowship, and ultimately a chance to share the hope we have in Christ.

Watching God Provide

One of the most incredible parts of this journey has been watching God’s provision.

Through the generosity of so many of you, we have received over $15,000 in financial donations, along with more than $1,000 in additional pledged support toward the future of this ministry. We now have only about $5,000 remaining to fully fund the next phase of what God has placed before us.

Every conversation, prayer, and act of generosity has reminded us that this ministry belongs to the Lord, and He is faithful to provide in His perfect timing.

Because of that provision, we have already purchased three premium Boise State season tickets that will be prayerfully gifted throughout the season to children, families, and individuals in our community.

The Moment It Became Real

This week, I had the opportunity to go to Boise State and pick up those tickets. As I held them in my hands for the first time, I have to admit, a little watery stuff filled my eyes.

I couldn’t help but imagine the joy on the face of a child or family when we tell them, “These seats are yours.”

To think about a child walking into Albertsons Stadium and experiencing Boise State football from these incredible Club Level seats—an experience they may have never imagined having—filled my heart with so much joy.

I don’t believe one of my spiritual gifts is the written word, so I know I can’t fully communicate the joy that filled my heart in that moment. But I want to do my best to share some of that joy because these tickets were made possible by people who chose to believe in this ministry.

My prayer is that this gift doesn’t only impact the child, family, or individual who receives it. I pray that God uses it to impact everyone who invested in it, prayed for it, served alongside us, and gets to bear witness to the moment.

More Than a Football Ticket

These tickets represent so much more than seats at a football game.

They are a small picture of the Gospel.

None of us deserve the gift of God’s grace. Through Jesus Christ, we have been invited into His family and given a gift we could never earn.

In the same way, these tickets aren’t something recipients have worked for or earned. They are simply a gift, freely given, as a tangible expression of the love and generosity that Christ first showed us.

We aren’t giving them because someone has done something to deserve them. We’re giving because Christ first gave to us.

Our prayer is that every family and individual we bless experiences far more than a football game. We hope they experience genuine hospitality at the tailgate, build meaningful relationships, and see the love of Christ through the people they meet and the conversations that take place around the table.

There Is Always a Seat at Our Table

We want this tailgate to be a place where individuals, churches, ministries, groups, and organizations throughout our community feel welcomed and encouraged to join us.

Holy Smokin BBQ exists to bring people together, and we believe there is something powerful about God’s people gathering around a table, sharing a meal, and serving alongside one another.

Thank you for continuing to pray for this ministry and for being part of what God is doing. Your partnership is helping create opportunities to share the Gospel and serve our community in ways we never could have imagined.

If you have been encouraged by what God is doing through On the Banks and Holy Smokin BBQ and would like to help us reach our remaining funding goal, we would be grateful for your support.

Whether through prayer, volunteering, financial support, joining us at a tailgate, or simply sharing our mission with others, thank you for partnering with us as we seek to glorify God by serving His people and pointing others to Jesus Christ.

There is always a seat at our table, and we hope to see you there this fall.

God bless,
